The Lotus Hotel in Honolulu is the easternmost hotel in Waikiki, near the base of Diamond Head. The location and property itself is unlike the rest of the bustling resort community, offering guests unmatched (for the area) peace and tranquility. The latter descriptor is probably a a big part of what made you choose to stay at this property, so why would you want to start your vacation off any other way? That’s what may happen if you don’t choose an equally thoughtful form of transportation from Honolulu International Airport. To make sure that’s not the case, here’s what you need to know.
Best Way to Get from Honolulu International Airport to the Lotus Hotel in Waikiki
Take an Affordable Flat-Rate, Private, and Direct Shuttle
On the surface you may have been told that transportation from the airport to Waikiki is a breeze. It certainly can be, but you want to be selective when choosing how you get from “A” (baggage claim) to “B” (your hotel).
The Lotus Hotel does NOT offer its own dedicated shuttle service from the airport to their property, so you need to organize something on your own. There are shared shuttles at $15-20 a person, but those traveling in parties of two or more are best left to a private transfer. We’ll get to that shortly. The biggest reason to avoid a shared shuttle service from HNL to the Lotus Hotel however, is based on the Lotus’ location near Diamond Head. Long story short – your hotel is the last stop for shared shuttle services from HNL to Waikiki Beach. Not only do you have to wait until all other HNL arrivals (who are sharing your shuttle) gather up and luggage, run to the restroom, and hobble their cramped legs on board, you have to wait for all of them to get off the shuttle/bus at their respective hotels which run from west to east in Waikiki. The total time lost from HNL to the Lotus could run at about an hour or much more depending on the time of day. That’s not a great way to begin your time in paradise.
What about a traditional taxi? By now, most people don’t even consider this to be an option, but if you’re unfamiliar with the traditional taxi system on Oahu and are wondering why everyone looks for an alternative, click here for the answer.
You may be considering using your ride-hailing app at this juncture, but there are issues with taking Uber or Lyft from the airport to your hotel. Namely, is the fact that parties of two or more with the usual luggage load will most likely require an UberXL or LyftXL to ensure there is enough room for you/it all. As soon as you “upgrade” to the XL category, the price increases significantly and no longer becomes a budget-friendly option. There’s also the fact that the ride-hailing pick-up zone is on the second level center median outside Lobby 5 – not in front of your baggage claim which is instead on the ground level of ALL terminals. At a higher price (XL versions), less convenient pickup zone, and non-professional driver, this option is nowhere near as efficient and comforting as the preferred alternative.
Instead of the unfavorable options detailed above, we’re happy to present you with the only transportation solution you won’t regret – Honolulu Airport Transfer. We offer visitors an affordable flat-rate, private, and direct shuttle service that picks you up from right outside of baggage claim on the ground level of the airport.
