This is one of the best located hotels in all of Waikiki. The property is smack dab in the middle of the action, but because of this, pulling up to the entryway can be pretty hectic for a newcomer. For that reason we suggest leaving the car rental for after you’ve settled into your accommodations. There is also little time to hop out and unload your luggage when using Uber or Lyft, as they don’t have an officially designated place to drop you off. A commercial shuttle however, is welcomed by the front end staff (valet/concierge) with open arms, leaving you with plenty of time to wait while we unload your luggage for you. That said, not just any shuttle will do, as you should absolutely avoid shared shuttle services. Under the shared shuttle scenario, you will have to wait for all other passengers to be gathered up from outside of baggage claim, and you will have to wait as they are dropped off at their respective hotels/resorts, most of which are located before Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort which is more central in the area. Waiting in queue while fellow travelers are unloaded along the western end of Waikiki will eat away at your time in paradise, and patience. The same reasoning above applies to this Outrigger property. But perhaps even more so because unlike the highly visible sibling, this hotel is tucked into Kalia Road, beside Fort Derussy Beach Park. Yes, this beachfront (literally on the sand) resort is very convenient, but it’s a bit more confusing to get to for first timers so again, don’t rent a car until later on, once you’ve figured out the lay of the land. The vehicle entry is also more “luxury” than its Kalakaua Avenue partner, so it’s apropos to pull up in new model private commercial chariot than say a traditional taxi or random Uber/Lyft, with a driver that typically does not unload luggage for you (much less get the car door). A private flat rate shuttle service is simply the only way to go.
