Of course, being a campground, you need to plan your arrival with care. For one, they most certainly do not offer Honolulu International Airport (HNL) shuttle service. You’re going to a beachfront campground which feels as if it’s in the middle of nowhere. After a 6-hour or longer flight, the last thing you want to do is try and figure out how to make it to Malaekahana without pre-booking transportation in advance. Island transit (TheBus) is not much of an option, given that it will take you well over 2-hours to get from HNL to Malaekahana if you catch every bus transfer on time (unlikely). Keep in mind that they don’t accept luggage (suitcases and large excessively packs) on TheBus, so you and your party may not even be able to board in the first place. What about Uber/Lyft? Unless it’s prime time (and correspondingly expensive) you won’t find a ride-hailing service driver who is willing to accept fares from HNL all the way (approx. 40 miles) to Malaekahana Campground. Uber really isn’t an option for this route. And knowing that car rentals are way out of budget for your camping vacation, you’re really only left with one option – a private and direct shuttle service. What to Know Before Arrival
The Malaekahana Beach Campground store (where you check-in and grab supplies) is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM each day. Assuming that you’ve planned your flight accordingly, you’ll want to book your HNL shuttle for arrival within that window as well. While located in Kahuku, you don’t want to wander around with luggage in tow waiting for the on-site store to open. This isn’t Waikiki or other resort area where you can nestle into a cozy lobby while waiting to get settled in. That said, if you’ve made arrangements to meet some of your party who is already there, you can book your shuttle with us for ANY time of the day, be it at dawn or late at night. It’s also important to note that supplies within the shop (pictured below) are limited. If you need to stock up on certain items, simply let us know in advance and we can work out a stop en route for quick grab items. We’re VERY accommodating to your unique needs as a camping visitor!
